We love to see a finished building, but it’s even better to see a happy client

I highly recommend Blake Architects, particularly Nicola Lewis, for any renovation or construction project. They provided invaluable guidance throughout the planning application process and remained a constant support during the construction phase of our project.Nicola worked closely with us to understand our vision and needs, and translated our ideas into a functional design that exceeded our expectations. They were highly responsive to our questions and concerns, and always available to provide guidance.Their attention to detail and commitment to quality was evident in every aspect of the project. They worked tirelessly to ensure flawless execution of every aspect of the construction. We are extremely pleased with the final result and would not hesitate to use Blake Architects, and specifically Nicola Lewis, again in the future. Thank you for all your hard work.

Blake Architects have helped me with a number of projects over the last 10 years, ranging from inventive design of an old Pig building, refurbishing and extending a village house to inspired design of old war buildings and foundations near to a WW2 airfield.

The most recent and most testing from a planning perspective was a stable/equestrian complex on the footings of an Officers camp next to the WW2 Bibury Airfield. The historic maps were there to see but careful negotiations and reasoned arguments led to a sound proposal. The neighbours to the stable yard were not overly keen and objected, however the basis of our sound proposal meant that we eventually won through.

Previously they gained planning permission next door for a 6 bedroom house from a war building that was believed to be the officers communal mess room.

Jonathan has a good eye for space and an inventive, create and modern take on what at first site may seem like ordinary buildings

The end result is that we will be able to create a racehorse training facility with trainer and staff accusation all in one compact, well designed space.

We are really happy with the product (5 barn conversions), people are booking to stay with us from all over the world with enquires from Australia to America. We have an amazing conversion rate once people have seen the barns and online guides rate us along with Soho Farmhouse and Daylesford as places to stay in the Cotswolds. We already have repeat customers which bodes well for the future.

This is testament to the great team effort with Blake leading the design through planning and construction. It was tricky working with the old barns but the hard work has paid off and we and are guests love them.

From our first meeting, we were confident that Jonathan and Misha completely understood our brief of creatively modernising our listed town house and it was a joy to work with them for the project. Downsizing from our large rural home to an urban location with a small garden, we wanted to be able to see the sky and let natural light flow throughout the downstairs living space.

Blake Architects embraced the idea of a modern, curved glass extension. The new ground floor layout functions perfectly; every inch of the basement is being used. We are utterly delighted with our home which has achieved the balance between spacious living areas and the flexibility to create smaller areas with folding and sliding doors. It really works for modern living and maintains a cosy traditional feel.

We used Blake Architects to help us get planning back for demolished stables into a residential property. Jonathan came up with the original design which was excellent. Throughout the development Jonathan and Misha were flexible, helping us and the builder maximise the potential of the property. The end product was stunning and we couldn’t be happier with the architectural design and the quality of the build, none of which would have been achievable without the significant assistance given by Blake Architects

The team at Castellum, a high-end residential construction company, has been lucky enough to work with Blake Architects on more than once occasion; we have no hesitation in recommending them to our clients. Their designs are beautiful and we have been privileged to see the results of their ‘bluesky thinking’ and how this then evolves into a final scheme. The quality of their work is exceptional and they combine fabulous flair and creativity with practicality and knowledge – it is a winning combination and we are delighted to be associated with them.

We worked with Blake Architects on the planning stages for the development of a brownfield development site in Tetbury and we would gladly recommend them to any potential clients. We have found that their designs met our commercial requirements whilst remaining sensitive to the local landscape and architecture of the town.

Jonathan and his team are a pleasure to work with. They listened to our aspirations for the site, worked around the constraints of the site and used their excellent understanding of the local area and historical context to produce designs that fulfilled both our needs and those of the town.

Having driven past a building that had really captured our imagination, we set about discovering who the architect was before approaching them to discuss our ideas for our own project. We had bought some barns with planning permission but felt confident that we could improve on it.  Blake Architects immediately understood our suggestions and set about enhancing and improving them. Jonathan and Misha were intuitive and fun to work with and we have not looked back. We have ended up with a scheme that far exceeds our initial hopes and dreams. Their attention to detail and thoughtful input has made for an enjoyable process and we would not hesitate to recommend them.

Blake Architects worked with us to create a truly unique building that would sit comfortably in its rural and agricultural surroundings while also providing both a stylish and comforting space for our family to live and grow in.

The team were extremely sensitive to the mixed brief. We were constructively challenged at every design decision point - where could we push the design further, what needs to give ground to something else? From the partnership, an extraordinary building grew, one that now has its own identity and that has quite literally become part of the family!

Designing and building a family home by putting pencil to paper is no small undertaking. Blake Architects ensured that at no stage were we overwhelmed. Their confidence at all stages, from consultancy and design through to build and post-completion has left us feeling honoured to have worked with them and proud that they have been part of creating our dream home.

Blake Architects were commissioned by Bidwells, on behalf of the Manydown Estate, to design a new country house in the rolling and rural South Downs near Basingstoke. The brief we gave was to gain approval for a marketable six-bedroom house which had a traditional appearance that would fit with the brick vernacular of local houses and the adjacent Listed Barn and Granary.

The design met our requirements for a mix of traditional and modern living spaces and cleverly, the house appeared to have evolved as part of the farm over time. The sympathetic designs in large part helped us achieve a difficult planning approval next to Listed Buildings and the South Downs AONB.

We were given a punctual and professional service by Jonathan and we recommend Blake Architects and will look to work with them in the future.

Jonathan designed and project managed our barn conversion: he listened to what we wanted, worked harmoniously with the builders, and created a dream home that is both visually exciting and immensely practical. As an architect he combines vision with a meticulous eye for detail; as a human being he is simply delightful. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I repeatedly – only last week in fact – extol the subtlety of your architectural nuances for what was a simple brief: a one-story garden extension. I spend little time in the room itself – it’s Judy’s – but I never cease to be delighted by the way the hall-way doors are recessed, the variety of the window shapes a position, the slightest of touches that confirm a mastery of your medium. You could not have planned this but sunlight striking the glass of the corner window at certain times of the day, casts a beam of light across the surface of the lawn – an 'angel’ it might be called – that is magical.

Jon recently designed and project managed a major reconfiguration of our house. The work spanned from initial planning application drawings, through tender drawings, through engagement of major contractor and sub-contractors, through to project management of works to completion. We found Jon to be a professional, innovative, flexible and pragmatic architect. He was immediately in tune with what we had in mind for the property, which was reflected in his initial drawings and he coped with multiple last minutes changes of mind and scope admirably. We felt completely comfortable giving him the lead on the implementation of the plans which he managed effectively to our initially agreed timescales. We would happily recommend Jon’s services.
