Jonathan founded Blake Architects in 2011, having returned to the Cotswolds of his childhood. A belief that buildings should be of their place, not just in it, runs through his projects, alongside a life long curiosity with architecture from the ancient to the contemporary.
He enjoys the complexity and challenge of achieving the "effortless" — a favourite project being Bibury Farm Barns, which led environmentally, respected its heritage and proved a commercial success for the client. Today, Jonathan leads the direction of the practice as it evolves and is hugely proud of the Blake team, which continues to grow.
Currently he is designing a replacement country house in North Wales and advising a landed estate on reuse and diversifications of their business.
He is a founding member of the Gloucestershire Design Review Panel and has been an external critic for the Kings Foundation Building Craft and Conservation Programme. He has experience as an expert witness on Design at Planning Appeals.
Outside of work he spends time with his family, chases his spaniel and, when the chance arises, loves to garden.
